A while ago, I interviewed my readers for a change, and my final question was, “What question have I NOT asked at BTT that you’d love me to ask?” I got some great responses and will be picking out some of the questions from time to time to ask the rest of you. Like now.
Ted asks:
This is a question that is difficult for me to answer. I remember one similar to it a while back, and if I remember correctly I chose "The Family Tree" by Barbara Delinsky. More recently I read this book by Kristin Hannah, "Night Road." It would be nice to know what happened to the family after the book ended. My Review.Which non-series book would you most like to read the sequel to? Do you have any wishes for what might happen in it?
NIGHT ROAD is vivid, emotionally complex novel that raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best, telling an unforgettable story about the longing for family, the resilience of the human heart, and the courage it takes to forgive the people we love.
How about you, what was your choice?
Home to Woefield by Susan Juby. I just fell in love with the characters and hated to see the book end. I wish Ms. Juby would write a sequel to that one.
ReplyDeleteI may be a curmudgeon, but I think one problem with the book world these days is that a lot of what is published is part of a series or a sequel. And I think, on some level, while it's nice for the author and publisher to have "captive" audience waiting for the next installment, sometimes there are series being started that don't warrant them. Or you run the risk of alienating new readers who might want to sample something.
ReplyDeleteWow! I almost picked that one. I would love to know what happened to that family. Great book!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Here's MY THURSDAY MEMES POST
I mentioned this author in my response because of this book. I too would like to see how and what happened to the characters.
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to answer too but you'll find my thoughts about it here
ReplyDeleteA hard question.

This is a tough question! From time to time, after reading a book with an open ending, I've wished for a sequel, but nothing strikes me as the definitive answer to this question at the moment.
ReplyDelete"Home to Woefield" I will look for this one. Have not read her books.
ReplyDeleteLoved your review-- I need to check the book out!!
ReplyDeleteHere's my answer: http://blueeggbooks.blogspot.com/2012/03/booking-through-thursday_08.html
I like series, but I still think there are too many series in the world.
ReplyDeleteThis is a hard question for sure. I haven't read that author but have heard good things. As far as sequels go, it would be nice if Jane Austen had written a sequel to Pride and Prejudice. Only she could of really made it work.
