If you could get a sequel for any book, what would it be?
I am not much on sequels for books or movies. I think a good book is hard to follow with a good sequel. It seems to me a sequel never can top the first book. They either do a lot of repeating of the first book, or prolong the plot, and just fall on their face.
I recently read "The Help" and saw the movie over the week-end, maybe a sequel could let us know what happened to all The Help after the book was written. But, like I said before, Why spoil a good thing????
Totally agree with this.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI agree with this, but sometimes you want a little more information, like what happened after the book ends. Have a great day!

I agree with you! I would be curious what happened to the ladies in The Help but I'd be afraid a sequel would mess up the magic of the original story.

Me, too -- in general, I like a book to end and then be done with it! I'd rather just imagine what happens to the characters after the end of the book.
ReplyDeleteAs I said in my post, if there's a good reason or a good story to be told with the same characters in the same universe, I'm all for a good sequel. But when it's done for the wrong reasons, I'm not a fan.
ReplyDelete@nashville -- I think you've hit it -- it's all about intent. A lot of writers no doubt find themselves under pressure to "write more of the same" (by their agents, publishers, or their own mental hobgoblins) -- iow sequels are a kind of safe career choice. But that isn't the same as finding a good place to start telling a story . . .
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Help yet, but I think I'm going to go look it up. The movie looks pretty good, so I'm sure the book will be better! :D
ReplyDeleteI agree, sequels are never as good as the first book in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteOh, there is a Bridget Jones book! Well, actually two. It's SO much better than the film adaptation, it's very different.
I agree,why ruin a good ending.

This is a hard question but I agree with your opinion. Haven't read The Help but it sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any either. Most books have a great ending and these days if there is going to be a sequel all the first book is good for is setting up the next one!
ReplyDelete"The Help" was the first thing that popped to mind when I read this. My mother also said the same thing. But then again...do we really want to know or would it just spoil the feeling we all got from the first book!
