Name a book (or books) from a country other than your own that you love. Or aren’t there any?
Since I'm from USA, I guess the only Foreign books I read are books written by people from UK.
The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, written by Alexander McCall Smith. In this series McCall Smith gently unfolds a picture of life in Botswana's capital...with a mastery of comic understatement. Forget the library - the body is in the mud hut. An African Miss Marple created by a Scottish lawyer...superb. His novels are also somewhat funny: I find it impossible to think about them without smiling. They are delicious, light-hearted stuff and I love them.
I could never forget Dame Barbara Cartland, "The Greatest Romance Writer of All Time" Barbara Cartland is the "Best Selling Author in the World" according the The Guiness Book of World Records.
How about you: What book or books from foreign countries do you like?
I read Agatha Christie's books.

And, of course I love Jane Austen's Books.

I love Agatha Christie's and Jane Austen's books. I've never read anything by Barbara Cartland!
ReplyDeleteHaha I love the pictures. :) I'm starting a new meme today called What Were They Thinking? over at The Crowded Leaf.. Stop by if you want to participate!
ReplyDeleteGood answers. I went with the first thing that popped in my head, but again, I hadn't had my 2nd mug of coffee. Would have added some other authors.

I like Agatha Christie and Jane Austen and McCall Smith too, but since my first language is Swedish but I've been reading in English for forty years, I had to make this question more challenging for myself by excluding English/American writers as well as Swedish. If you like, read my answer here.
ReplyDeleteIt is always great to discover great reads regardless of the country or nationality of the author. Here's my BTT for this week.

I love the books/authors you mentioned from the UK. I also have read some wonderful Japanese literature recently, as a result of terrific reading challenges hosted by Dolce Bellezza. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to try one of McCall Smith's mysteries. I have heard some much about them!
ReplyDeleteI love everything I've ever read by Agatha Christie! Definitely one of my faves. Haven't read anything by Alexander McCall Smith, but his books do sound like something I'd enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen's books! And I've always wanted to read Agatha Christie's books but there are so many that I don't know where to start.
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austin and Agatha Christie is a close second. Lately, though, I've been in Malaysia in Tom McLaughlin's book, "Borneo Tom." His travelogues and sketches open a new and fantastic world in very remote places.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to admit that I have never actually heard of Barbara Cartland, but then again maybe that shouldn't be surprising. I'm not a romance reader. I have to go quiz all my romance loving friends about it now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
