So … you’ve just finished reading a book. For the sake of the discussion, we’ll say it was everything a book should be—engaging, entertaining, interesting, thought-provoking. The kind you want to gush over. The question is—do you immediately move on to your next book? Or do you take time to contemplate this writerly masterpiece and all its associated thoughts/ emotions/ ideas for a while first?
I think and contemplate about the book while I am reading it. Sometimes I make brief notes while I'm reading a book. I post about each book I read on my Book Lust Journal as soon as I finish reading it. I like to post immediately after I finish because my thoughts are fresh, and it is just the way I do it. Depending on the time of day I finish a book, I may move on to the next as soon as "My Thoughts" are posted....Or I start a new book the next day.
Are you a contemplater, or a do you move on right to the next book?
Usually I'm like you and I like to write my thoughts about the book down as soon as I'm finished, so I can really think about it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, there are some books that I have to mull over before I review. I move on to other books, but my thoughts are still percolating.
Your process sounds like mine...I also love writing the review right afterwards. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteIt varies a bit for me, depending on the book and what mood I'm in. I don't write a review of every book either.
ReplyDeleteI usually move right on to the next book. But I do also make notes on the books while I'm reading them. Now if I could just make myself sit down and write the reviews right away....
ReplyDeleteVery good question! I don't like to rush to a new book after I've just finished one. I do like to think about the book I've just read at least for a short while before I open the next one. Even when I read short stories I feel that way. I prefer to give stories and books a chance to "sink in" before I start something new.
ReplyDeleteI usually contemplate about a book while reading.

Great question. I'm definitely a contemplater. I like to jot down notes as I read for my review later. But if I read a new favorite book, I like to think about it after I'm done for a bit. I'll even take a day or so off from reading anything else.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much move along to the next book.
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteI review all of my reads but I don't often make notes while I read the book. I make notes only if the book provokes some sort of extreme reaction from me, either contempt or admiration. For example, when I read The Time Traveler's Wife I made a huge amount of notes because I loathed the book so much!
I don't make notes while reading, but I usually take time to let the book 'sink' in when done before going on to another book. Sometimes if a book 'moves' me a lot it takes a little bit to find another book.
ReplyDeleteI read, I think about what I, I write my review and I move on to the next book!
