"Booking Through Thursday"

Amy and Sarah both asked about genres:
Amy asks:
Name a book you love in a genre you normally don’t care for. What made you decide to read it? Did it make you want to try more in that genre?
Bookish Sarah asks an interesting assortment of questions:
What genre do you avoid reading and why?
A genre I normally don't care for is the 'Thriller/Suspense' genre. I am more of a 'Cozy Mystery' genre reader. A book I read in the thriller/suspense genre was "The Lincoln Lawyer" by Michael Connelly. I read it after a movie was made based on the book. I decided I wanted to read the book before viewing the movie. Did it make me want to try more in that genre? I have to say yes to that! I enjoyed that book so much that I read two more of Michael Connelly's  books in the series, they were: "The Brass Verdict" and "The Fifth Witness." Actually, they weren't as much thriller/suspense as I was expecting, which made me happy. But they always had an ending that I never saw coming.

I avoid reading paranormal, anything to do with werewolves/witches/wizards, etc. I also don't read the YA genre either...I just have no interest in those sort of things.

How about you, do you have a preference to what genres you read?

  1. I read the Hunger Games because I wanted to read the book before I saw the film. Still haven't seen the film and I'm wondering if it will be similar to the book or lots of changes. Here's mine: Small Blonde Hippy

  4. I also avoid YA and paranormal because the plots usually don't interest me. That is why I was so surprised when I found one I liked. Also, I love your Austen-banner :D

  6. I have the Lincoln Lawyer on my TBR shelf waiting to be read. Might have to move it up in the pile.

I don't do YA/PNR either. Don't even have the "want" to know as I have done with other genres.

    Have a great upcoming weekend!

  7. I agree with you about the werewolves, etc. I have tried one YA writer, whose work I've enjoyed: Beth Kephart.

  9. I have to agree with the paranormal. But now you have me curious on "The Lincoln Lawyer" - might have to see if my library or PBS (Paperback Swap has it). =)

  11. It's nice to find a good book in a genre you don't tend to read. Im not overly fond of fantasy books, but sometimes I'll find a gem.
