"Booking Through Thursday"

btt button
With the advent (and growing popularity) of eBooks, I’m seeing more and more articles about how much “better” they can be, because they have the option to be interactive … videos, music, glossaries … all sorts of little extra goodies to help “enhance” your reading experience, rather like listening to the Director’s commentary on a DVD of your favorite movie.
How do you feel about that possibility? Does it excite you in a cutting-edge kind of way? Or does it chill you to the bone because that’s not what reading is ABOUT?
This is a question I had to think about for a while. I love my books, love to be surrounded by them. I love meandering around in bookstores looking at the cover art, buying a few that appeal to me and other books that sound interesting to me. I would miss all of that if I only read my books from an e-reader.

Will I ever buy an e-reader? It isn't something that is in my immediate future. I love reading the books, holding them, turning the pages, and looking on my bookshelves to decide which one I will read next.

Which do you prefer, eReaders, or Books?

  1. I probably wouldn't have an e-reader yet, except my daughter, appalled at my overwhelming shelves of books, gave it to me at Christmas. There are nice things about it...but. Here's MY THURSDAY MEMES POST

  2. I will admit I have 2 EReaders, however, I don't think I will ever give up print books. Like you, I like being surrounded by them, especially now that I have my own reading room.

  3. Well, see, you just need to acquire a "problem" like mine -- I do all that AND I use an e-reader! No doubt I need an intervention but that is another conversation. I love rambling around indy bookstores and I even spend much time in the book area of our local antique mall -- I have purchased many books from my childhood there, for myself and my grandchildren. I think it doesn't matter how you "get" the books -- once reading is a part of your life, there is no going back.

  5. I feel exactly the same way, Gigi Ann. You expressed it so well here.

  6. Everyone has different feelings about this. I was surprised to find how much I love my Nook. I almost solely use my ereader these days.

  7. I love the way a book feels in my hands, the actual turning of a page, the smell of a new book and being surrounded by my current reads or just my favorties. It just doesn't seem the same reading in an ereader.
