I have been putting off reading this book for a few months. Why? Because it is a 479 page book. Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite authors, therefore, I have decided to start the month of September off by reading "Firefly Lane."
I have been neglecting My Book Choice Of The Month lately. I guess because it was Summer and I was busy reading all the Summer selections I had picked up at Barnes and Noble the last few months. Well, starting today, I am back in the Saddle Again, as the saying goes. Choosing My Book Of The Month.
Firefly Lane is story about two girls who have been best friends since childhood. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn. Tully, steeped in glamour and mystery, but with a secret that is destroying her. They make a pact to be best friends forever, by summer's end they've become TullyandKate. Inseparable.
So begins Kristin Hannah's novel. Spanning more than three decades. Firefly Lane is the story of two women and the friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives. For thirty years they encourage each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship--jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they've survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart...and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test. So says the back cover...
My Thoughts.... September 8, 2010
I just finished reading Firefly Lane today, and as always I enjoy Kristin Hannah's novels. This one was no exception, except, I found it a bit predictable, and somewhat unbelievable in some parts of the book.
However, I think that has more to do with the so called generation gap. I grew up in the 50s, a much more innocent time. When the 60s and 70s exploded upon the scene I was a young stay-at-home mother. So, I think that is why I found so much of the book unbelievable.
Nevertheless, I found it a fun summer read, and awarded it 4 stars out of 5.
I hope you enjoy this one. I think you will, because it sounds really good. Have a terrific weekend! :)
