"Our Souls At Night"

In the familiar setting of Holt, Colorado, home to all of Kent Haruf's fiction, Addie Moore pays an unexpected visit to a neighbor, Louis Waters. Her husband died years ago, as did his wife, and in such a small town they naturally have long been aware of each other, if not exactly friends; in fact, Addie was quite fond of Louis's wife. His daughter, Holly, lives hours away in Colorado Springs; her son, Gene, even farther away in Grand Junction. What Addie has come to ask—since she and Louis have been living alone for so long in houses now empty of family, and the nights are so terribly lonely—is whether he might be willing to spend time with her, in her bed, so they can have someone to talk with. But maybe that could change? As Addie and Louis come to know each other better--their pleasures and their difficulties--a beautiful story of second chances unfolds, making "Our Souls at Night" the perfect final installment of this beloved writer's enduring contribution to American literature.

"A spare yet eloquent, bittersweet yet inspiring story of a man and a woman who, in advanced age, (70) come together to wrestle with the events of their lives and their hopes for the imminent future."

My Thoughts...

I have never read a book by Kent Haruf before, but noticed in Vanity Fair that "Jane Fonda and Robert Redford are reportedly uniting for a Netflix Romance. The two are said to co-star in an adaptation of Kent Haruf's novel "Our Souls at Night". So if that rumor is true I for one would watch it. Therefore, I got the book, because any bookworm knows the book is always better than the movie, so if possible I always try to read the book before I view the movie.

I didn't realize until I received the book that "Our Souls at Night" was Mr. Haruf's final novel.

I'm not sure how I felt about the story, it was a whimsical, laid back, quiet, unruffled kind of story, but just the same it kept me turning the pages to see what was just around the corner. It was kind of a sweet story, but bittersweet at the same time. See like I said, "I'm not sure how I feel about the story." It kept my attention, it is a book that can be read in a day, although I took parts of two days to read it. I enjoyed it enough to award it 4 nighttime stars.**** Now I can't wait for the movie....

I bought this book and it is part of my personal library.

P.S. I RECENTLY WATCHED THE MOVIE WHEN IT ARRIVED ON NETFLIX. IT WAS AN OKAY MOVIE. AT LEAST I ENJOYED SEEING JANE FONDA AND ROBERT REDFORD TOGETHER AGAIN, IF FOR NO OTHER REASON.
