"Goodnight, Brian" Book Tour

Fate was working against little Brian Mauretti. The food that was meant to nourish him was poisoning him instead, and the doctors said the damage was devastating and absolute. Fate had written off Brian. But fate didn’t count on a woman as determined as Brian’s grandmother, Angela DiMartino, who everyone knew as Mama. Loving her grandson with everything she had, Mama endeavored to battle fate. Fate had no idea what it was in for.

An emotional tale about the strength of family bonds, unconditional love, and the perseverance to do our best with the challenging gifts we receive, "Goodnight Brian" is an uplifting tribute to what happens when giving up is not an option.

This is the first time I've read a book by this author, Steven Manchester. I was not sure how I would view this story, but I found it a pleasant surprise.

It was full of emotion, but also a feel-good book to read. I know in the real world sometimes it's best to get a second doctor's opinion, as was the case in this book. It seems that baby Brian, had trouble digesting his formula, so the doctor changed him to a soy based formula, which didn't help him. However, the doctor just told his mother she was worrying to much about the baby and to go on and keep feeding him the formula.

Being the mother of five children, I could feel for the mother when she tried all she could to help her child, and he still just cried all the time. And the doctor just was no help at all. Finally, they took the baby to another doctor who did the tests and finally found out what the problems were. The story although sad at times, showed how love and family are needed in all situations of life. Like I said, it was a feel-good story, along with all the struggles of raising Brian.

The only problem I had with this book was the religious and preachy parts of the story. Yes I agree that we all need faith, because faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.

However, we each have our own religion or faith, therefore, I  prefer reading stories without the religious undertones, and as I said the preachy parts. That being said, I would probably have given this book 5 stars, if not for those reasons. So I have awarded it 4 stars instead.

This book was provided to me by "Providence Book Promotions"  and the author, Steven Manchester, to read and give an honest review. Thank you Steven for a  few pleasant days of reading, and the wonderful visit to the Rhode Island, and Boston. I enjoyed reading your novel. Actually, after I started reading it, I had trouble putting it down.

Also, a special thanks to "Providence Book Promotions" for inviting me to be a part of this book tour.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading and reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers and authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review.

  4. A good, honest review! Sounds like a good book but a tear-jerker. I'll have to save it for a day when I'm in the mood to cry. :)
