"Musing Mondays"

This week MizB at Should Be Reading's musing asks…
Do you read the ending before you start a book? Do you ever skip ahead to read the ending?
I say, "Now what would be the fun of reading the ending first?"  I think it would spoil the whole rest of the book. If I were to read the ending first, then why would I bother reading the rest of the book. No fun there, especially if it is a mystery, since I do love a cozy mystery now and again. The only time I would skip to the end of a book is if it were so boring and I had put in a decent amount of time trying to give the book a chance to redeem itself, and I just can't take it anymore, I will skip to the end to see who done it, or who lived happily ever after, otherwise, I say, "I NEVER read the ending of a book first!"
What do you say? Do you or don't you?
THE END!!!

  1. I don't like to skip ahead, either; like you mentioned, I'll check the last page number.

  2. I'm with you> Especially if one reads for enjoyment and entertainment, it seems to me that it would defeat the purpose.
    Have a great week.

  6. I couldn't agree with you more! (Although I don't mind when a movie starts at the end, and then tells the story. That's different, somehow.)

  7. I just can't bring myself to do it, even if it is a book I am really not enjoying. Though I kind of wish I had with one book because I felt like I wasted so much time fighting to get through it. Thanks for visiting!

  8. I look at the last page number always when I start a book but I never peek at the ending.

  9. I never do read the ending first or skip ahead. There'd be no point in continuing to read if I did.

  10. I often skip to the end of a book. I started out doing it to see how authors put things together. I do it now to see if the story is worth reading, or if the series is worth continuing on with. I've grown tired of certain formulas.

I also found that knowing the ending didn't ruin a strong book, only the weak ones. The mark of a classic is that it still interests people no matter how well known the plot is.

  11. I NEVER skip to the end either. Oh dear...why read it if you do that. :)

I heard a comment the other day that this person reads the last page of a book before she decides to buy it. Now to me that is crazy. :)

Have a great day. Thanks for stopping by my blog, Gigi Ann.
