"Book Blogger Hop"

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop, hosted by - Soon Remembered Tales.
This week's question is...

Banned Books Week ends on the 6th. How do you feel about books being challenged to be banned from libraries or schools? Have you read any banned books?

My feeling about books being challenged or banned is this...I think we all should make our own choices about what we will read or won't read. I censor my own reading material, and if I start to read something that I am uncomfortable reading, I STOP and don't read anymore of the book. I don't censor your reading so I appreciate nobody censoring my reading. My friends know what I won't read, however when they choose to read those books do I care? No! Sometimes we even discuss them.

To find out just which books were banned books I had to google about them, since I didn't know which books were banned. After reviewing the list, I found I had read three banned books.
1. Gone With the Wind.
2. The Great Gatsby.
3. To Kill a Mockingbird.
I'm not sure if I ever read the books about Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, but we all know their stories anyway.
Most of the books listed as banned I didn't read because they are not in the genres I read, not because I think they should be banned.

  1. I have all three of those books on my TBR list, but still haven't read them. I really need to make time to though.

  2. I agree...make your own choice. I read all three of those and MORE, but wasn't aware they were banned until I looked at the list.

I was REQUIRED to read them in high school. :) I am sure they were not banned at that time.

Stop by to see the list I read. :) My link is below.

  3. I haven't read Gone With The Wind yet, but considering how much I love the movie, I should. The other two you've read, though, are near and dear to my heart. Amazing books.

There are a lot of amazing books on the banned book list. Such a shame.

  4. Excellent post! So many books have been banned--it's ridiculous!

    Another great new blog design!

  5. I agree... We should have access to any books we want to read. If we allow someone else to decide what we can read, or if we try to decide what is appropriate for others to read, then we are interfering with our American rights! As for children's books, parents can certainly guide what their own children are allowed to read, but it is ridiculous to ban a children's book and say NO KIDS SHOULD READ THIS! That is up to the parents and kids to decide, not a third party.

  6. Reading is a personal choice -- if we ban one book, we might end up banning them all!

  7. It's crazy that in this day and age books are still being banned. I have all three of those books on my shelves. Some of the best books get banned, GWTW is one of my favorites.
