"Booking Through Thursday"

We all had to read things in school that we didn’t like … but what
about something you read for a class that you ended up liking (or
loving)? An author you discovered that you might not have found? A
genre you hadn’t thought about?

O.K. So I graduated on June 2, 1958, so this isn't an easy question for me to answer.  Back in those days we were required to read books and write book reports about them. I do remember the title of the book that introduced me to reading, and finding that I enjoyed reading for fun and entertainment. I think I was probably in the 8th grade when I read it. The title of the book was "Hot Rod" and it was a book about kids and their "Hot Rod" car. For some reason I loved that book, and that is the book that jumped started me into my love of reading. I also remember I liked the book "The Good Earth" by Pearl Buck. I should read that one over again, and see why it appealed to me at the time. I wonder if I would still like it? And of course my all time favorite book was "Cinderella" I still love that book after all these years!

What did you read in your schooldays that you enjoyed reading?

  1. Hi Ann! This is a difficult question. I know there were books we "had" to read, but I sure can't think of a single one, good or bad! I know I've always loved to read. Our grade school didn't have a library, so the Bookmobile came every two weeks or so. I just loved climbing in it and choosing an armful of books each time.

  3. I remember writing many, many book reports in school. My 7-year old daughter calls the reviews on my blog "mom's book reports." :)

  4. It's funny some of the things that stick in one's mind after a number of years. Although I didn't include it in my answer, a book called 'Fattypuffs and Thinifers' sticks in my mind as one of the first ones I had to write a report on, I think when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I need to try and find that book again and see if it was as good as I remember it to be. My BTT:

  7. I remember reading books and writing book reports too. I'd have to say The Catcher In The Rye became a favorite. My son read The Good Earth last year for English class.
