"A Jane Austen Education" Review

I thought this book,  "A Jane Austen Education: How Six Novels Taught Me about Love, Friendship, and the Things That Really Matter" was a book about Jane Austen. However, it is a memoir of a young man's life transformed by Literature. But...it is also a book about Jane Austen, and her books, as well as being a memoir about William Deresiewicz, and his life after reading six of Jane Austen's novels.

In each chapter he takes a different book of Jane Austen's and breaks it down and tells how and what each book taught him about his life, and how it changed his viewpoints for the better.

After reading this book I saw Jane Austen's stories in a very different light. Now when reading or watching adaptations of her books into movies, I will understand them so much better. As a matter of fact, in keeping with my Jane Austen theme this month, I have been also watching some of the Jane Austen movies, as well as reading things related too, by, and about her.

Even if you're not a fan of Jane Austen you may enjoy this book, and who knows, you may become an Austenite. You'll never know unless you give it a try! I really enjoyed this book, it was very enlightening.

This book is part of my Kindle library.

  1. I saw this one at the bookstore and wondered about it. What a nice idea for a book.
