This week’s MizB at Should Be Reading musing asks…
What is the longest book you have ever read? How long did it take you to read it?

As I thought about this question the only book that came to my mind was "Gone With The Wind."  As I recall it took me parts of three weeks to get it read. I read it probably close to 25 years ago. If I recall correctly it is about an 800 page book, give or take a few pages.

At that time in my life I was a busy mother with a few children still at home, also we lived on a farm, so I had farm chores to attend to. Therefore, I didn't have as much time to devote to my reading. There were a few nights I stayed up until 3 o'clock in the morning reading it. It was a difficult book to put down when I found some time to read it, which was mostly in the evenings, and into the wee small hours of some mornings. It is one of my all time favorite books.

This week I am reading a 514 page book by Barbara Delinsky, (one of my favorite authors) "Lake News." So far it is an exciting and fun book to read.

What book took you the longest to read?

  1. I can't remember how long it took for me to read GWTW, but I think it was my longest....the one I read seemed to have more than 1000 pages, but the one I received from Amazon has 960.

I know what you mean about all the other stuff that grabs our time and makes reading challenging.

That's how my life was years ago, too.

  2. Great post today! I'm not sure which book took me the longest time to read. And it may have not have been the book with the most pages.

  3. Not sure if a read GWtW...liked the movie though.
But I will admit I am not a fan of Giant Books.

  4. I don't really mind reading big books now that I have a Nook.

  5. I would have to check the page count but it is between Les Miserables and House Divided.

  6. Lake News is a goodie! I loved that one, glad you are enjoying it.

  7. I never read GWTW, in fact, I've never seen the whole movie. My hubby just told me today when we saw that Ann Rutherford had died, that I need to watch it.
