"Booking Through Thursday"

btt button
A while ago, I interviewed my readers for a change, and my final question was, “What question have I NOT asked at BTT that you’d love me to ask?” I got some great responses and will be picking out some of the questions from time to time to ask the rest of you. Like now.
Sally asks:
Have you ever bought a book, started reading it and then realised you have already read it? If so, how far did you get? (Can you tell this happened to me for the first time ever this week!?!)
And–did you keep reading??

Yes, this has happened to me a few times. I read about 4 or 5 pages and started thinking, "I think I read this book before!"  Did I keep reading? No, I paged through the book, read here and there to be sure I wasn't mistaken.

Buying books I had already read was the reason I started keeping track of all the books I read. In January 2012, I created a blog just for that reason, all the books I read  are posted on my "Book Lust Journal" blog with a short review, a reminder for me of what I thought of the book.

Have you ever bought a book and later realized you already read it?

  1. I haven't done this before but now I use Goodreads and my blog to keep track.

  3. yeah that's one of the reasons I started a blog too. Plus I wanted to express myself. Goodreads is a good place to keep track though. Here's my Thursday meme's

  4. I'm not sure if I bought one that I'd read before, but I know I've gotten some at the library and then realized it! I started keeping track YEARS ago in one of the cute little books you could buy (and probably still can)to list your books by title, author's name, your rating on it, etc. It also has a page to list what books you've lent out to who...which I really loved because even very good friends have "lost" books, or said they returned them...etc! Recently I also bought some of the old-fashioned looking library envelope/cards. I write who borrowed my book and what date! It's really more for a cute joke, but also a good reminder to the borrower that the lender KNOWS! :)
    Great question!!

  5. I agree its a good idea to keep track of books read and reviewed on a blog. I will look on mine when I'm looking to read Phillipa Gregory, since I tend to get her Tudor books mixed up.

  6. Yes, tracking my books has helped with this, since I have done that, too.

Now I can check my blog!

  10. I started keeping track of my books for just the same reason--but it still didn't help. Here's why: my long BTT answer.
