"A Killer Read" Review

Summary...
For the first meeting of the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straws Society, six friends gather in Molly Matthews's old Southern mansion-including Lizzie Turner, a reading specialist with a penchant for mysteries. But the mystery book club meeting becomes the scene of an actual murder when a stranger is shot-and nobody knows who the victim is, or how Molly' antique gun came to be used as the murder weapon.

Then Lizzie begins finding mysterious manuscript chapters in her mailbox. As she and the book club members try to read between the lines, Molly surfaces as the next name on the killer's list...

My Thoughts...

This book is a cozy mystery, set in the small town of Ashton Corners, Alabama. It is the first book in the series, but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone book. I need to say right off, I really enjoyed this book. The only complaining I have about this book is....

The book (and this is my opinion only) I felt there was way to much unnecessary details, such as...A list of every food item that was eaten whether it was at a meal or just a snack was described in detail, and that was often....Another was the choosing of the clothes items to wear each day...enough already! Just get dressed, go to work. I didn't find it necessary to know what the color of each outfit she wore each day and evening was. However...

Like I said, I did find this book a fun and fairly fast paced read. There is a hint of romance for Lizzie and the Police Chief, Mark. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see where it leads.

I am awarding this book 4**** because I really liked it. It is a part of my e-book Nook Library.

I also read this book for my....

  3. This does sound like a good cozy read, but I know just what you mean about too many details. That annoys me too.

  5. I liked this one a lot too. The extra details don't bother me as I like to picture it all in my head and this helps me. What did you think of the manuscript that kept popping up in the mailbox? I got caught up in that story as well as the plot. This is one series I plan to definitely read the next one. Glad you liked it too!

  6. Hi Gigi Ann,

Another new book and author in the mystery genre, there are just so many of them around.

I love descriptive writing, but I would struggle with lists of food and clothes, not very imaginative somehow.

I have made a note of the book details, but am not sure whether it is really one for me.

Glad that you enjoyed it and thanks for the honest review.
