"Musing Mondays"

This week’s musing hosted my MizB asks…
What does it take for you to give up on a book you’re reading?
I was reading a series, and it just seemed to be repeating the same old storyline, with the same characters. Oh there were some new clients to work for but it just seemed to me the story was the same as all the ones before it. The book was "Finger Lickin' Good" by Janet Evanovich. I got discussed after 63 pages, and never finished the book.

I gave up on another book, "Town In A Lobster Stew" by B.B. Haywood. I got over half of the book read, and went to the last few chapters and read them to see who did it and why. It just had to much unnecessary filler, and I said enough is enough.

If I am reading a book and it gets all trashy, steamy, and hot in the romance department, I give that book a pitch into the trash where it belongs and never finish reading it. I hate smut books. I don't care how great the storyline is, I still hate the smut and pitch it. I guess that about covers my reasons to give up on books I am reading.

  1. You're so right...if the book doesn't work for me, I don't want to waste my time.

  3. I'm really careful about the books I choose to read. I don't want to waste any time on a bad book! Pretty much the only reason I'll stop once I've started is if there is offensive content (smutty stuff, as you say).

  4. I gave up on Evanovich long ago...and several other author who write a series. It is just the same thing, over and over, with a few new names, a few plot differences, but way too same.

  5. It's interesting to read all the different reasons people have for tossing a book. We all have such different tastes.
