"The Summer I Dared" Review

SUMMARY:
On Big Sawyer island, life is as steady as the routine of the lobstermen who leave with the tide each morning and return with their haul each night. But for forty-year-old New Yorker Julia Bechtel, life and what's important in it are about to be forever altered when she survives a terrible boat accident en route to the island. Now, in the company of her aunt and daughter, Julia finds herself feeling strangely connected to the tragedy's other survivors -- Noah, a divorced lobsterman, and Kim, a young woman rendered mute since her rescue -- and newly outraged at the state of her marriage to a domineering man. Seeing the world with new eyes, Julia vows to embrace life with all of its joys and uncertainties. And the journey begins on Big Sawyer...

My Thoughts:
I hate writing this book review, because Barbara Delinsky is one of my favorite authors. And anyway, I shouldn't say I read this book, because I struggled through to page 178 of the 491 pages and finally said enough is enough. It was a very slow boring book to read. (That is just my opinion only.) I noticed quite a few who have read this book, loved it, liked it, and thought it was an okay read. However, I am not one of them.

All that being said; this will not keep me from reading other Barbara Delinsky books, like I said, she is one of my favorite authors. I have read quite a few of her books and I have loved, liked or thought they were okay reads. This just happens to be one I don't care for. I felt it had way to much details about the rabbits, the food, the menu, the fog, the weather etc, I could go on and on, but I won't.

Therefore, I will have to give this book 1*, because I didn't finish reading it.

I own this book and it is in my personal library.

  1. I'm sorry to hear you didn't like this one. I usually like Barbara Delinsky's books too. It's so disappointing when one of your favorites write a clinker, but it does happen. Glad to hear you will continue to read her books.

  2. Yow! I love Barbara Delinsky but this does not sound good. It's hard to even imagine struggling with one of her books. Maybe she had an off year or something. Thanks for your honest opinion. I guess I won't be putting this one on the list.

  3. Too bad this one dissapointed. Sometimes some of our favorite authors flop.
    Thanks for the honest review.

  4. I found this to be one of her slower reads, but I did get all the way through it. Have you read Family Tree, Looking For Peyton Place or Not My Daughter yet? I enjoyed these three! They kept me turning the page to see what happened next. Currently I'm reading her new book, Escape. So far so good.
