"Musing Mondays"

This week’s musing hosted by should be reading asks…
What is the last book you struggled to read through to the end, even though you weren’t really enjoying it? What made you keep reading?

The last book that I really struggled through to get read was "The Painted House" by John Grisham.  It was, to me, the most boring book I have ever read,  followed closely by his book "Playing For Pizza." Why did I keep reading? With "The Painted House" I really didn't keep reading, I set it aside for about six months and then decided to finish reading it, I thought maybe it was just the mood I had been in the first time around... Nope, it wasn't the mood, it was the book. I gave it to my daughter-in-law to read and when she gave it back, she asked me, "Did you think this book was boring? Because I did." So I rest my case.

What was the last book you struggled to read to the end?

  2. I couldn't keep reading The Painted House, either. So..it definitely is the book! We all agree here....

Thanks for visiting my Monday reading blog. I thought Distant Shores looked familiar, too, and since it came out awhile ago, I thought I surely read it. But I don't recognize it, so I'm convinced that I missed it.

  3. Wow. I never even gave Grisham a try. Always looked too dry.

  4. I was a huge fan of Grisham in his early years of writing but haven't picked him up since Skipping Christmas :(

  5. Boring books are the worst, I even prefer a badly written one that has a bit of excitement to it.

  6. There are too many books waiting to be read than to struggle with one that is mediocre. Thank you for today's chuckle. I came in through the back door, and I never know how many blogs will be on display...there were a lot today lol.

  7. I agree with you about reading the book BUT listening to it on audio for some reason made it a lot better and I saw the movie and thought that was good. Go figure!

  9. I enjoy Grisham's books, but I don't think I read either of those. There are just too many books to read to continue with something you don't like.

  10. Life was slow and boring in Arkansas, where this took place. We don't live far from the old Grisham farm.
