"Musing Mondays"

This week's meme hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading  asks…
What’s the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn’t put it down?

I  really can't remember when was the last time I stayed up to read a book because I couldn't put it down. The reason for that is; I have bouts of insomnia three or four nights each week, therefore when I can't sleep I get up and read.

I have a set time to go to bed, but if I can't fall asleep I get up and read for a few hours. So many of the books I read are read until about 2 o'clock in the morning. Then hopefully I will be able to fall asleep.

Do you often stay up late to read a good book?

  1. Yes, I find myself reading during the night a lot...but the one I wrote about today was exceptionally captivating (and sleep-stealing!).

  2. I used to be a night owl and read to the wee hours in the morning but as I get older, my sleep pattern has changed and so has my reading pattern.

  3. I'm up many nights, sometimes until 5-6 am reading. Good thing I work from home with no set schedule!

  4. I am a little too disciplined a sleeper to stay up. the bane of a shift worker...

  5. Having to stay up to finish reading a book is one reason why I read so little when I worked. I stuck to holiday reading or I'd never have got up for work.

I was the same with knitting, sewing and crochet so didn't pick any of these up until 4 years ago when I retired. Now I can do what I like when I like. Freedom!

  7. Never stay up late for anything -- well, hardly anything. I am simply incapable of it -- yet I have always wanted to stay up late and have no idea why-- I think it must sound sophisticated or glamorous -- clearly not me!

  8. I read every night before I go to sleep. Like you I used to have insomnia and would get up and read. The book I am reading right now is very good to me, so I look forward to it.

  9. I've done that, too. If I'm reading in the middle of the night, it's usually because I just can't fall asleep. Otherwise, I don't stay up late to finish reading anything.

  10. I have similar issues so I didn't really count it with my answer. I have sleep apnea and bad back so sometimes I am up in the middle of the night reading because I can't lay down anymore. For a while there I could only sleep every two hours.

  11. You put your insomnia to good use. I am usually too tired to stay up really late to read.

  12. Hi Ann,

I always used to make a point of going to bed early enough to have some quality reading time before I went to sleep.

These days, I seem to go to bed later and later, that my eyes just won't stay open to read!

I tend to have my quiet reading time for an hour or so early in the morning, with my first cup of coffee of the day, before hubbie is up and about.

    Yvonne
