Library Thursday Blog Hop

The Library Thursday Blog Hop is a new weekly meme hosted by Lah @ LazyGirl Reads.

Each week, I will list which books I've picked up, put on hold, skimmed through at the library. It's a great way to see what other bloggers are browsing through while we are waiting for new titles to come out. And it's a blog hop! So you can make some more bloggy friends. YAY!

My books this week:

I hope this isn't cheating. In December my library called to tell me they had some Reader's Digest Condensed Books that were donated, and if I was still interested I could have them. I had recently told them that if anyone donates any I would be interested in them, since they do not put them on their shelves. They had three books, I took two, I already had the other one. BTW, I had to give fifty cents a piece for them.  Now since I decided in 2011 to try and read more Library books, I think I will like this new meme.

When I was raising a family of five children, and a husband, lots of farm animals, etc. I didn't have the time to read that I have now. Therefore, I was a member of the Reader's Digest Condensed Book Club. About four times a year I received my book, with four or five condensed books in them. It took me about  the 3 months to get it read back them. I fell in love with these books, and get mine now at yard sales, and library book sales, anywhere I can find them. Did I say I love them...hee, hee.

  1. Oo..i think i have one Reader's Digest Condensed Book, my Dad bought it a year or two ago!Just to be sure- An RCB is like one put-together book of 4 different books right? They don't have any other relation to Reader's Digest other than the fact that RD does the putting-together?

Here is what i got from my library...

  2. We used to have to long book shelves of those in my home where I grew up. I see some of them at my mom's house still, but I don't think she gets them anymore, she just kept her favorites. I never read them, amazingly. They were too high on the bookshelf for me to read. Above the 1940's Encyclopedias. Hope you enjoy your Readers Digest condensed books.

  5. I grew up with a house full of condensed books, because my Dad was in the same position as you: loved to read, no time to do it properly. He was a member of the Good Companions book club and I still have some of them.

Later, he moved up the management ladder and had more time and we acquired a considerable number of 'real' books too.

  9. Happy 2011 Gramma Ann! I've never read those, but they sound interesting. I will be interested to hear your recommendations as I am trying to make more time to read. I've really missed it.

  10. We used to get the Reader's Digest Condensed Books when I was a kid. I used to read a lot of them. That's where I first met Jane Eyre. I think I will go look her up in Kindle and read it again.
