Musing Mondays

Musing Mondays (Oct.18, 2010)

 This week’s musing asks…
Do you prefer hardcovers, trade paperbacks (the bigger ones), or mass market paperbacks (the smaller ones)? Why?
To be honest it really doesn't made to much difference to me. However, if I have to choose, I like the hardcover books because the print is usually larger than the smaller books, and as I get a year older each year, the eyes get older also, so the larger print is much easier on the eyes.

Nevertheless, I like the small paperback books because they are less expensive, and easier to carry with me when I'm on the go.

In spite of all of that, the trade paperbacks are my favorite because they just feel right when I'm reading them, the print is a bit larger, and no dust-jacket to deal with like the hardcovers, I sometimes take the dust-jacket  off while I read the hardcover books, especially if it becomes a nuisance. I like them for the looks, but, hate them when I'm reading.

How about you, which do you prefer?

  1. I prefer hardcover books and I'm not really sure why. Perhaps it's because they look better on the bookshelves or I like to have something 'of substance' in my hands when I read or they're easier to handle or they seem to not tear up so quickly??? However, if it's a book that will not be added to my collection but passed off to someone else or sold in a yard sale, then the small paperbacks are the winner.

  2. Well said. I tend to agree especially about the size of font, thats another reason why I like my EReader, I can adjust the font size.

  3. Thanks for visiting my blog. I used to feel the way you do about eReaders,... until I got mine. I am all about the tactile feeling of books, and I thought that reading them digitally might lessen my enjoyment. I still like the feel of a real book now and then, but I truly love the functionality of my Sony and it definately doesn't hamper my ability to get into a good book!

  4. You have given this a lot of thought, and your answers make a lot of sense.

  6. I go with whatever takes my fancy at the time... It usually depends on what's available, what's in front of me or what the price is.

  7. I don't really have a strong preference. I think hardcover books are a bit nicer in terms of quality, and believe they'll last longer, but I certainly don't mind reading paperback books. Great meme this week!

  8. I sometimes take the dustcover off, too. If I don't I end up using it as a bookmark (bad habit, I know).

  9. I prefer mass market for the size and cost. I'm enjoying reading everyone's answers.

  10. the trades may be my favorite, except I like hardcover for a book I want to keep.
I hate the mass market PBs. The type is too small, the spines crack, pages come out they get all bent. Trash...lol
