I'm answering Static and Silence's question. Here is the question I will be answering this week:
“Have you ever read a book from your most favorite author that disappointed you, bordering on removing her/him from your list of favorite authors?”
I"m sorry I have to say Yes to that question. I at one time was a fan of John Grisham, but, became disappointed in some of his books, so therefore, I very seldom read a book by him anymore. I guess you could say my answer is short and bittersweet, because occasionally I will break down and read a book of his, but as I said before it is few and far between.
My question: Do you plan ahead for your reading? Working off of a TBR pile? Or do you choose whatever you are in the mood for?
I used to be a huge fan of Grisham but gave up on him midway through! Another one is Patrica Corwell. I can't stand her books now.

yes, I have to agree about Grisham too. The first couple were great and then he seemed to be just dialing them in.
ReplyDeleteCornwell..oh, don't get me started on her. I have totally given up on her. Totally.
But sometimes it is not as drastic. I just read a book by an author, in a series, that I have read several of before and this one was not great. But I will give her one more chance.

ReplyDeleteTo answer your question: I have a TBR pile and file but most of the time I strayed when another book catches my eye. I'm not loyal to my TBR pile/file. It probably is already annoyed at me. Wandering eyes... XD
One of my favorite books is Lightening by Dean Koontz, one of his earlier novels. A very creative story... time travel, Nazi's, suspense, even some romance.
ReplyDeleteHis more recent stuff seems to be the same formula over and over. So I don't bother.
I am starting to feel that with about Iris Johansen's Eve Duncan series...the last book I read in the series went, in my opinion, too far into the whole ghost thing...I am not a fan of the paranormal, so I'm not sure about continuing the series. I also got turned off of James Patterson's romance books after reading Sunday's at Tiffany's.
ReplyDeleteAs for your question - sometimes I do plan ahead for reading, especially right now as I have quite a few review books to read. I have a separate desk calendar with all the books written down on the dates they need to be read and reviewed by and when I finish a book, I look at the calendar to see what's next and if I have time to sneak something from my own tbr pile in before reading the next review book. I even have all the review books in a stack with the next one to be read on top, so if I'm in a rush to get a book, I know what to take.
I have to agree especially about John Grisham. I think I read his first two books and never picked up another one by him. I felt that I needed to be a 4th year law student to understand all the legalise. Irionically, I was just thinking about that because my current read is a legal suspense, "Buying Time" by Pamela Samuels Young and so enjoying it. Short chapters, turn the page without having to go a law library lol. Each chapter alternating between characters and little cliff hangers for each one. A legal thriller for the average Jane.
