"Monday Musings"

This week’s musing asks…
What do you think of books that receive a lot of hype? (think of the “Twilight” saga, or “Harry Potter”, or “The Da Vinci Code”). Do you read them? Why, or why not?

Do I read  books that receive a lot of hype? No, especially not the ones named in this question. I don't read anything about Vampires, Wizards, or the way over the top  Da Vinci Code.  I don't read any kind of Sci-fi books, it is just not my kind of reading.

However, if a book by one of my favorite authors, for example, Nicholas Sparks,  is receiving a lot of hype I will look into it, and probably read it, depending on the content. Even if it is by a favorite author, doesn't necessarily mean I will read the book, or will run out and buy it.   I like cozy reading, whatever the genre.

  1. I totally agree about the paranormal books. Definitely not in my list of genres I enjoy.

  2. I agree..I am not greatly moved by the big hyped books, especially if it is a genre I don't usually read.

  3. My thoughts exactly! Wow, and here I thought that everybody in the blogosphere would rush out and buy the Twilight books! lol

I do see vampire books everywhere, not just Twilight. And to me, these characters are very unappealing.

I like what I like, and no matter what the publicity machines tell me, I am not swayed.

    Here's my musing:

  4. It really depends. If it's a genre or author that I like, I'll probably read it. I did read DaVinci Code after all the hype, and I really disliked Then I read Angels and Demons by the same author and came to the conclusion I just dont like Dan Browns writing.
So all that hype, really comes down to nothing.

  5. I'm not really into the paranormal lit, either, although I do like a good sci-fi book now and then. And I agree about favorite authors - I'll usually look at their books whether or not they're getting lots of hype. But it doesn't mean I'll end up reading them. Too many books, too little time!

  6. I feel the same way. I only read the hyped books if it's a genre I want to read anyway.
